Job Specification: Corporate Tax Assistant / Semi-Senior

Location: Liverpool
Salary: Competitive + comprehensive benefits
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Suitable for: Candidates seeking their second move in Corporate Tax (e.g., 12–24 months’ experience in a practice CT role)

About the Firm

A well-established and growing accountancy practice in Liverpool with a strong regional presence and an excellent reputation for developing tax talent. The firm offers a supportive, high-quality training environment and exposure to a broad range of clients across sectors including manufacturing, property, professional services, and owner-managed businesses.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to step up from their first Corporate Tax role and take on more technical work, client exposure and study-supported progression.

Role Overview

As a Corporate Tax Assistant, you will work closely with experienced tax managers and partners to deliver high-quality corporate tax compliance and advisory support to a varied portfolio of clients.

The role is designed to provide structured development, making it an excellent next move for someone early in their tax career who wants to build deeper technical skills and progress quickly.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Tax Compliance

  • Prepare corporation tax computations and returns for a diverse portfolio of SME and mid-market clients.

  • Assist in reviewing financial statements for tax-sensitive items and adjustments.

  • Manage workflow to ensure all submissions meet internal deadlines and HMRC filing requirements.

Advisory Exposure

  • Support managers with ad-hoc advisory projects, which may include:

    • Loss relief planning

    • Group relief claims

    • Capital allowances reviews

    • Tax-efficient structuring for OMBs

    • Navigating tax implications of business transactions

  • Conduct initial research on corporate tax technical issues.

Client Interaction

  • Communicate with clients regarding information requests and submission updates.

  • Build strong working relationships with client finance teams and internal colleagues.

  • Attend client meetings as your experience grows.

Development & Progression

  • Receive ongoing mentoring from senior team members.

  • Work towards CTA or continue ACCA/ACA progression (full study support provided).

  • Take on increased responsibility as technical confidence builds.

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role is aimed at someone ready for their second move in Corporate Tax — typically:

  • 1–2+ years’ experience in a Corporate Tax role within an accountancy practice.

  • Solid grounding in corporate tax compliance; some advisory exposure is helpful but not essential.

  • Currently studying or keen to study CTA (or continuing ACA/ACCA).

  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Good communication skills and the confidence to deal with clients as responsibility evolves.

What the Firm Offers

  • Competitive salary dependent on experience

  • Full study support (CTA / ACA / ACCA)

  • Clear progression pathways

  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements

  • Exposure to both compliance and advisory work from an early stage

  • Supportive, collaborative team environment

  • Regular technical training and CPD
