Accounts Senior - Wigan with ref. ES-18976

Clark Wood are currently working with a well-established and highly regarded independent accountancy practice in Wigan who are looking to recruit a semi-senior / senior accountant to join their growing Accounts team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable firm with a long-standing presence in the North West, known for delivering high-quality accountancy, tax, and advisory services to a varied client base including owner-managed businesses, SMEs, large corporates, and international groups.

In this role, you will work closely with Accounts Managers and senior colleagues, supporting accounts assignments from planning through to completion. Your responsibilities will include preparing statutory accounts under FRS 101, FRS 102 and SORP 102, compiling management accounts from incomplete records, and assisting with corporate and personal tax compliance work. You will also be involved in VAT returns, bank reconciliations, P11Ds, and other ad hoc duties.

You will liaise directly with clients, managing day-to-day communications, resolving queries, and ensuring the timely delivery of services. The role will also provide exposure to more complex accounts preparation work, with the opportunity to support the audit team during peak periods. You’ll be encouraged to proactively identify opportunities to enhance client service and contribute to continuous improvement within the team.

The ideal candidate will be studying ACA or ACCA, with a minimum of two years’ experience working in a similar accounts-based role within an accountancy practice. You will have strong attention to detail, good Excel and Word skills, and a proactive, organised approach to managing workloads and deadlines. Experience with cloud-based software such as Xero and Sage would be advantageous.
