An established independent firm of accountants based in Canterbury, with a close-knit team of around 15 staff and two hands-on Directors.

The firm provides a full range of accounts, tax, and business services to owner-managed businesses and SMEs, with a strong reputation for long-term client relationships and practical, commercial advice. There is no audit work, allowing the team to focus entirely on advisory-led client service.

The Role
The firm is seeking a qualified Accounts Manager to take responsibility for managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing the preparation and review of accounts and tax work, and supporting the Directors in delivering a high-quality service.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role suited to someone who enjoys autonomy, variety, and working closely with business owners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a portfolio of owner-managed business and SME clients
  • Reviewing statutory accounts, management accounts, and tax computations
  • Overseeing corporation tax, personal tax, and VAT compliance
  • Acting as the main point of contact for clients, providing ongoing advice and support
  • Identifying opportunities to add value through tax planning and business advisory services
  • Supporting and mentoring junior and semi-senior staff
  • Managing workflow, deadlines, and quality control across your client portfolio
  • Working closely with the Directors on client service and business development

Candidate Requirements
  • ACA / ACCA qualified (essential)
  • Strong experience within UK accountancy practice
  • Proven experience managing a client portfolio
  • Solid technical knowledge across accounts preparation and tax compliance
  • Confident communicator with strong client relationship skills
  • Organised, commercial, and comfortable working in a small-firm environment
  • Hands-on, flexible approach with the ability to manage competing priorities

What’s on Offer
  • Salary up to £50,000 for the right candidate
  • Friendly, supportive working environment within a stable independent firm
