Accounts Manager / Client Manager
Location: Plymouth, Devon
An excellent, well-established firm of accountants based in Plymouth, known for its strong client relationships, supportive culture, and commitment to developing its people.
The firm works with a broad portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SMEs and offers a high-quality, personal service.
The Role
Due to continued growth, the firm is seeking an experienced Accounts Manager / Client Manager to join its team. This is a key client-facing role with responsibility for overseeing the delivery of accounts and tax services, supporting and developing team members, and working closely with partners to maintain and grow client relationships.
You will play an important part in shaping the future of the team through training, mentoring, and leading annual appraisals, while also providing proactive, strategic support to clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing final statutory accounts and tax computations prior to partner sign-off
  • Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as a key point of contact
  • Providing ongoing support and practical, commercial advice to clients
  • Assisting partners in maintaining and developing strong client relationships
  • Supervising, mentoring, and training accounts staff
  • Leading and contributing to annual staff appraisals and development plans
  • Supporting workflow planning and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Maintaining high technical and professional standards across the team
 
Candidate Requirements
  • ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent) or qualified by experience
  • Proven experience in a similar role within UK accountancy practice
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients and supporting partner-led relationships
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation and tax compliance
  • Demonstrable experience supervising and developing accounts staff
  • Highly organised, accurate, and able to manage time effectively across multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with clients and colleagues
