Accounts and Audit Assistant Manager
Location: Liverpool
Job Purpose:
To lead the delivery of high-quality audit and accounts work across a diverse portfolio of clients. This role includes managing client relationships, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, and supporting the development of junior team members. The Accounts and Audit Assistant Manager is expected to work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to the strategic goals of the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit & Accounts Delivery:
Assist and deliver high-quality audit and accounts work on client engagements.
Plan, lead, and finalise audit assignments for a range of corporate clients, including high-risk or complex entities.
Work on complex and significant risk areas of audits, ensuring rigorous attention to detail and accuracy.
Manage and oversee the preparation and review of statutory accounts in compliance with FRS 102/105.
Supervise and review audit and accounts work prepared by junior team members, ensuring timely completion to the required standard.
Client Relationship Management:
Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and their staff, ensuring consistently high levels of service.
Manage client expectations regarding reporting timelines, deliverables, and deadlines.
Act as a key point of contact throughout engagements and proactively identify opportunities for value-added services.
Team Leadership:
Undertake day-to-day management of the audit field team, including task delegation and supervision during assignments.
Mentor and coach junior staff, conducting appraisals and supporting their professional development.
Promote knowledge-sharing and foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Technical & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with audit regulations and accounting standards including ISAs, UK GAAP, and FRS 102.
Identify risk factors within engagements and develop suitable audit approaches.
Stay up to date with technical and regulatory changes, communicating updates to the wider team.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Qualifications:
ACA / ACCA qualified (or finalist with substantial relevant experience).
Ongoing CPD in line with industry expectations.
Experience:
Knowledge and experience of the audit process within a UK accountancy practice.
Experience working on complex audit areas and managing multiple client engagements.
Demonstrated ability to lead assignments and manage junior staff.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of audit software (e.g., Caseware, CCH).
Competent MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
Commercially aware with the ability to build rapport with clients.
